Australia attends AUSMIN in a ‘different position’ to previous years: Gus McLachlan

Former Army General Gus McLachlan says Australia goes into the AUSMIN talks in a “different position” compared to previous years regarding American submarines operating in Australian waters.

“We would see American ships operating from Garden Island,” Mr McLachlan told Sky News Australia.

“We will see US nuclear submarines frequently operating through and being supported by Australian infrastructure, probably accompanied by a submarine support ship, they just won’t be based here permanently.”
